Brackets for Good Expands Tournaments to Washington D.C.

Eight local nonprofits to participate in basketball-inspired internet fundraiser

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Eight nonprofits in Washington D.C. will compete for donations in a basketball-inspired fundraising tournament courtesy of Brackets for Good, an Indianapolis-based charitable organization that provides pro-bono webraising support for nonprofits. The inaugural Washington D.C. event will tip-off March 4.

“Brackets for Good is a simple concept that encourages people to help local charities. We knew there could be a way to turn that positive energy into something that benefited the greater good, and we’re proud to announce our D.C. launch in 2013.”

Brackets for Good utilizes an online bracket system to encourage donations for participating nonprofits as they compete against for the opportunity to advance to the championship round. Each time a person visits the website and donates to an organization, their donation translates into points – one point equals one dollar. After each round, the winning nonprofit advances for a chance to compete in the championship for a $5,000 grand prize donation provided by Praxis Consulting, a full-service subrogation outsourcing firm in Muncie, Ind. Participating nonprofits collect 100 percent of their donations received during the tournament regardless of advancement.

Washington D.C.’s first tournament will include the following eight nonprofits: Dreaming Out Loud, M.A.N.U.P., Naval Services FamilyLine, Vort Port, Sarah’s Circle, DC Alliance of Youth Advocates, The Washington Inner City Lacrosse Foundation and the William James Foundation.

“Year after year, the intense hype about March Madness creates a positive energy throughout the country,” said Matt McIntyre, co-founder of Brackets for Good. “Brackets for Good is a simple concept that encourages people to help local charities. We knew there could be a way to turn that positive energy into something that benefited the greater good, and we’re proud to announce our D.C. launch in 2013.”

Brackets for Good’s three co-founders – Matt McIntyre, Matt Duncan and David Cornelius – launched the nonprofit in November 2011, with its first tournament raising more than $34,000 for Indianapolis charities in March 2012.
