ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) is now accepting submissions for the 2013 ALFA Senior Living Art Showcase, a competition honoring the artistic talents of senior living residents. Through this year’s theme, Celebrating The Beauty of Life, residents of senior living communities are asked to submit digital photos of original artwork highlighting the many ways seniors add beauty to our world.
“The resident centered nature of senior living communities affords older adults the freedom to explore a variety of skills and talents”
The showcase celebrates senior living residents’ overwhelming zeal for life and commitment to community. Residents of assisted living, independent living, and memory care communities are invited to submit works of art that best answer the question: “What adds beauty to your life?”
“The resident centered nature of senior living communities affords older adults the freedom to explore a variety of skills and talents,” said Richard P. Grimes, ALFA president and CEO. “Art is a powerful contributor to the high quality of life present in senior living communities across the country and around the world. Through ALFA’s art showcase, we celebrate the passion for creativity and extraordinary talents of senior living residents, who embrace each day and continually add value to our world.”
Artwork will be accepted through the deadline of February 25, 2013. Images of entries that best represent the theme will be uploaded onto ALFA’s Facebook page, where artists, their families and friends, as well as the general public can “like” their work. These “likes” will count as votes, and the top three works of art will be selected as Fan Favorite winners. Three Grand Prize winners will also be selected. These winners will be chosen based on adherence to theme.
The winning pieces of art will be honored at the ALFA 2013 Conference & Expo, May 7-9 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and each winning resident will receive an official art showcase T-shirt featuring a montage of this year’s artwork and an art party celebrating his or her talents. This year’s art showcase is supported in part by a generous contribution from its sponsor, Sargent Art. To learn more about the ALFA Senior Living Art Showcase, visit alfa.org/art.
