NJ “Bergen Battle of the Bulge” Wages War on Obesity According to Skinny News

Attacking New Jersey’s Fastest Growing and Costly Health Problem

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--According to the CDC’s most recent “State Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity Profile”, nearly two out of every three New Jersey residents over the age of eighteen are either overweight or obese.

“I’m very excited about this health initiative, and the promise of helping our residents live a healthier life style”

This presents a serious problem for the state of New Jersey by taxing the health care system upwards of 2.3 billion dollars a year. (Source: Mayor’s Wellness Campaign www.mayorswellnesscampaign.org)

To address this problem, the state of New Jersey has established the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign, a comprehensive program designed to equip influential leaders with the tools to implement active-living initiatives within their own communities. (www.mayorswellnesscampaign.org)

A highlight of the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign initiative is “The Bergen Battle of the Bulge” sponsored by skinnynewjersey.com (SNJ), a social network website designed to promote effective weight-loss strategies.

The “Bergen Battle of the Bulge” weight loss initiative is a 10 week program that seeks to energize and encourage participants to successfully lose weight and become healthier by sharing their journey with friends and neighbors. The incentive will run from January 15 – March 31, 2013. Prizes, donated by local merchants will be awarded to top “losers.”

Registration for the BB of B is done at www.skinnynewjersey.com. Registering is 100% free. The campaign is open to all people who live or work in Bergen County.

Mayor Peter Rustin of Tenafly and Mayor Frank Huttle of Englewood have enlisted their communities in the “NJ Mayor’s Wellness Campaign”, whose goal is to have each town designated as a “New Jersey Healthy Town” by having its’ citizens “Shape Up” during the coming months.

“I’m very excited about this health initiative, and the promise of helping our residents live a healthier life style” Mayor Rustin said. “It can be a force for change, and Tenafly can serve as an example to other communities in Bergen County”.
