FORT WORTH, Texas--()--Responding to the need for a new venue for Candles for Connecticut, a citywide interfaith prayer vigil in response to the tragedy in Newtown, First United Methodist Church Fort Worth will now host the event on Thursday, December 20 at 7:00 pm in its downtown Fort Worth sanctuary. This event was originally to be held at Clark Stadium.
“In times like these when there is such a deep wound—not only in the lives of those directly affected, but also for our nation—we need to come together”
“In times like these when there is such a deep wound—not only in the lives of those directly affected, but also for our nation—we need to come together,” says Dr. Tim Bruster, Senior Pastor, First United Methodist Church Fort Worth. “We invite everyone in our community to attend this interfaith event to unite with members of our faith community to stand for peace and honor in the midst of this horrific tragedy.”
Candles for Connecticut is a collaboration of leaders of our local faith communities, the Fort Worth Police Department and Fort Worth civic leaders to create a community-wide, interfaith expression of prayer and support united under the intent reflected in their mission statement: “At times like these, people want to hear from our leaders on things like the importance of community togetherness and cooperation in times of distress; the importance of the work of our law enforcement and first responders in times of crisis and their need for our support; the importance of faith, interfaith and coexistence; and last but not least, the importance of safety and of being proactive to ensure the security of everyone but especially the most vulnerable members of society, our children. While a message of change and the need to proactively address the circumstances of horrendous crimes like this one is welcome, politics are not. This is a time for healing and togetherness for our entire community above all else.”
