So what is IEMRs Forecast?

Total wireless subscribers in Chile to reach 21.7 million in 2014

  • We forecast that the number of total mobile subscriber accounts in Chile will increase from 17 million in 2009 to 21.7 million in 2014.
  • Movistar Chile will continue to be the largest mobile operator in Chile. We expect that Movistar's subscriber base will increase from 7.25 million in 2009 to 9.48 million in 2014.
  • Also, we forecast that Entel will have 6.95 million subscribers and Claro will have 5.33 million mobile subscribers by the end of 2014.

Claro's subscriber market share will be increasing over the next five years

  • Given its strong subscriber growth, our model forecasts that Claro's subscriber market share will be increasing from 20% in 2009 to 24.5% in 2014.
  • We expect that Movistar Chile's market share will also increase from 42.6% in 2009 to 43.6% in 2014.
  • On the other hand, we expect that Entel will see its subscriber market share drop from 37% in 2009 to 32% in 2014.

Stable ARPUs at Movistar and Claro from 2010 to 2014

  • Our forecasting model does not predict significant ARPU declines over the next several years. We expect that Movistar Chile's monthly ARPU level will be maintained at approximately CLP 8,300 from 2010 to 2014.
  • We also expect that Entel's monthly ARPU level will decline from approximately CLP 9,400 in 2009 to CLP 8,300 in 2014.
  • Claro will continue to set its ARPU level lower than those of its competitors. We forecast that Claro's monthly ARPU will remain at approximately CLP 5,600 over the next several years.

Movistar will be enjoying higher EBITDA margins than Movistar and Claro

  • Our model predicts that the industry average EBITDA margin (calculated as EBITDA/reported revenue) will be in the range of 35% - 37% over the forecast period, 2010 - 2014.
  • We expect that Movistar's EBITDA margins will remain higher than those of Entel and Claro. According to our forecasting model, EBITDA margins at Movistar Chile, Entel, and Claro will be 42.3%, 40.6% and 12.2% respectively in 2014.
